The story starts after giving birth
Overview
Having a baby is a life-changing experience, but for many women, support becomes limited once they leave hospital.
Behind the excitement of welcoming a newborn, many mums are left navigating physical recovery, emotional changes, and unanswered questions alone.
BodyOwn was created to change that.
A digital companion designed to help women understand what is happening in their bodies, access evidence-informed guidance, and feel supported throughout recovery.
Challenge
Transforming healthcare support into a trusted recovery companion
BodyOwn had a meaningful mission, but the experience needed to better communicate its value. The challenge wasn’t just building another healthcare platform.
It was helping mums understand:Why postnatal recovery support mattersHow BodyOwn could support themWhy they could trust the experience
The goal was to create a clearer path from discovering BodyOwn to confidently joining the platform.
Understanding the gap in postnatal support
Discovery
Before designing the experience, the focus was on understanding the reality of recovery after birth — what mums experience, where support falls short, and what they need most during this transition.
““Postnatal recovery affects many women, but support often doesn’t meet them where they are.””
The reality behind recovery after birth
Despite this, many mums still struggle to access the right guidance, reassurance, and specialist support when they need it most.
What mums really needed
The challenge wasn’t a lack of information. It was knowing what information to trust, understanding what applied to them, and feeling supported throughout the journey.-

Clear guidance
Understanding what is happening in their bodies and what to expect next.
-

Personlised support
Receiving advice that matched their stage of recovery.
-

Human connection
Feeling reassured and less alone.
Recovery is a journey, not a single moment
The research shifted the focus from simply providing healthcare information to creating a companion that supports mums throughout recovery.
Insights
““Is this normal?””
““Am I the only one experiencing this?””
““What should I do next?””
Designing around confidence, not complexity
The experience was built around three principles:
Creating a recovery companion that mums can trust
A supportive digital experience that helps mums understand their recovery, access the right support, and feel more confident after birth.Personalised recovery guidance
-

Helping mums understand their bodies
Clear, tailored guidance that helps mums understand what is happening, what to expect, and what steps they can take next. The experience brings together recovery milestones and evidence-informed content to make recovery feel easier to navigate.
Expert support & community
-

Helping mums feel supported, not alone
A space where mums can learn from clinical experts, join workshops, and connect through shared experiences. By combining expert guidance with real human stories, BodyOwn creates a stronger sense of trust and connection throughout recovery.
Mobile-first experience
-

Designed for real life after birth
A simple, easy-to-use experience built around the everyday reality of new mums. Clear navigation, accessible content, and a flexible design system help make support easier to access whenever it’s needed.
Sign-up in minutes
-

Making the first step feel easy
A streamlined onboarding journey that helps mums quickly understand the value of BodyOwn and join the pilot with confidence. By reducing unnecessary steps and creating reassurance from the start, the sign-up experience turns initial interest into action.
Bringing the experience to life
Launch
Working closely with founders, clinicians, and stakeholders helped balance:
User needs
Clinical requirements
Business goals
Technical constraints
The result was a stronger foundation ready to support future growth.
This moved BodyOwn from an early concept into a clearer, more accessible pilot experience. Helping more mums take the first step
The redesign helped validate BodyOwn’s direction and improve how mums engaged with the platform.
Designing for a moment that deserves more support
Reflection
BodyOwn reinforced that healthcare UX is about more than making information easier to access.
It is about helping people feel understood during moments of uncertainty.
The biggest takeaway
Great digital health experiences don’t just provide answers — they help people feel confident about what to do next.
